Color Commitment

Michelangelo had "David" and the Sistine Chapel. Tom Ford directed "A Single Man" and creates a new fashion line every 4 months. Kanye West....well Ye just does about everything...

It is always delightful when passions collide and embellish each other, and I know one can find many in agreement that fashion and art tend to run parallel with each other. That being said I would like to introduce Tim Walker, someone you should plug into your Google search bar. You might recognize Tim's work from basically everywhere: the pages of Vogue all the way to the permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
Walker moved to New York in 1994 to pursue a freelance career and ended up as a full-time assistant to a certain R. Avedon. At the ripe age of 25 he shot his first fashion editorial for Vogue and has continued his work for the magazine on two continents.

Tim continues to work in London.

Enjoy!

What makes the front row happy?

Wow...cannot wait for this collection to hit our door this coming fall season. Fur, leather, neutrals, and as usual some of the most interesting cuts in the industry! It's really cool to see a designer accomplish minimalism in a way that can be worn with ease and is inviting to the consumer!

DVF @ A.K.

2012 will be a banner year for many involved in the fashion industry. None more than CFDA mainstay Diane von Furstenberg at this weekends Mercedez-Benz runway show for fall. DVF abandoned her signature print matrix and resorted to color blocking in cerulean blues, chiffon appliques and satin sequins in pink lily and port red. This is such a fork in the road for the designer and a re-definition of what the DVF lady wants and who she is, A.K.RIKK'S thought it would be the perfect time to bring the designer into our home! Stay tuned for the looks from the runway gracing our doors for pre-fall in August!

PS....since our women's department is now arriving at the same high caliber that our men's has been at, we will be featuring blog posts that cater to our feminine side here at A.K.RIKK'S

Billy Reid goes to NYC

-thumb -thumb -thumb -thumb -thumb -thumb

To inaugurate all the new Billy Reid arriving in the store today, thought I should get your gears moving with some great shots of the show at Lincoln Center last night. Per usual, Reid's textures and muted colors are exemplary of the message he is trying to convey to his followers: that our forefathers did it best when they paid so much attention to detail, construction and quality materials.

Food for Thought

Dario Cecchini, master butcher speaking about life and the art of producing something that is excellent. It is always incredibly beautiful to watch a person so in love with his craft, explain what drives him and what his purposes are. It is also our goal to slow down, and provide a service that shows people that there is another road to be taken.

ps....just look at the tartar of Chianti! wow

Public House

The jolly staff of A.K. had the pleasure of staying at Public this past weekend in Chicago for a weekend of buying for our fall 2012 season and a little R&R. Hotel staff was amazing and quite accommodating for our loud bunch. We had a delicious meal and drinks at the Pump Room, an old lobby bar (formerly the Essex Inn) where the likes of Sinatra used to hang and Monroe used to play!

Highly recommend a stay at this old Chicago gem!

Who do YOU think should win?

Eli: Ermenegildo Zegna

Tom: Tom Ford

My take: In picking Zegna, Eli exemplifies the understated cool attitude of a calculated winner. Brady has swagger, and shows it by rocking Ford. My heart is in it for the underdog, but I'll take the Patriots on this one.
