Behind The Seams with A.K. RIKK’S – Adam
January 20, 2017
Today as a part of Behind The Seams with A.K. RIKK’S series we’d like to introduce our Operations Manager, Adam McKeague. Adam has been a part of our family for almost two years and explains, ” I would say a major aspect to my position is to make sure all components work as effectively and efficiently as possible. I want others to spend less time worrying about the how and more time focusing on the why.” Get to know how Adam’s story began at A.K. RIKK’S and his perspective on work culture through a series of questions in our sixth Behind The Seams with A.K. RIKK’S interview.
How did you first begin at A.K. RIKK’S?
I first came to the store after reading in Style Forum that A.K. RIKK’S carried the brand EIDOS which was a brand I was extremely passionate about, but never had the chance to experience firsthand. I still remember the first time I came into the store thinking I had no idea what I was walking into but I was extremely pleased with my entire experience. The Personal Shopper who helped me that day was so accommodating and even after I left the store he kept in touch with me to let me know when new pieces came in that I might be interested in. Eventually I started making more purchases and spending more time at the store, which made me realize just how special this atmosphere was. That all lead me toward really wanting to be a part of our culture and experience as an employee, not just a client.
EIDOS Creative Director and Designer Antonio Ciongoli personally wished you a Happy Birthday last year… How did that come about?
Well, Personal Shopper Jordan Hill was well aware how passionate I am about EIDOS and he has a personal relationship with Antonio Ciongoli from working closely with EIDOS. So, Jordan contacted him to ask him if he would send me a short video wishing me a Happy Birthday. It was by far one of the coolest experiences and beyond thoughtful on Jordan’s behalf.
How did you come across your first pair of designer denim?
Funny story actually – I was gifted a pair of Regular Ralfs NUDIE Jeans by exchange students from Sweden that I studied at The University of Tennessee in 2003. Looking back I believe it was their way of telling me my jeans were not in style. These jeans have been through thousands of wears, moved with me to four states, at least ten different closets, and are still my go-to.
How do you continue personal and professional growth?
For me, I’ve found that I grow so much more when I’m being pushed by my family, friends, and peers. Whether my patience is being tested by my 3 month old daughter, or through positive feedback and constructive criticism from the people around me – that’s where I find the most growth. Here at A.K. RIKK’S I’m surrounded by people with so many varying skills and strengths, so I know I can count on them for valuable knowledge and feedback that will help make myself better.
Why is work culture a key piece to success within a company?
If you are the greatest at your job, whatever it may be, but the atmosphere and people in it don’t spark your passion, you will not reach your full potential. Titles, pay, and location may be the flashy stuff that attracts a lot of applicants to jobs but the culture is what attracts and keeps the type of employees that every company should want to hire.
