Our Emmy’s Fashion Recap!

September 23, 2013

Hello! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Unless you live under a rock, you know that the Emmy’s were this weekend. Television’s best of the best came out, put ON their best and looked… their… best? OK- I’ll stop. But here’s our Emmy’s recap!

Oh, Michelle Dockery. If this were anyone else I would have deemed this a lil’ too much for the Emmy’s but it’s you and you’re so regal and elegant so it’s totally fine. Michelle is wearing a two-toned Prada gown with an GINORMOUS bow but, she pulled it off and looks amazing.

Everyone’s all about Kerry right now and I can see why. Last night she wore this Marchesa gown and looked like a goddess. The combination of the gown’s color with the detail gives this dress a beautiful balance. Her hair is simply down and curled with minimal accessories. Brava, Kerry!

Helloooo, Maria! Here is Maria Menounos in our Zac Posen dress and it hits her in all of the right places. Also, good call on the braid, Maria. Everyone google How-To’s for braids; it’s going to be THE hair-do come spring.

As we’ve seen from all of the SS14 runway shows, pink is about to become HUGE! Rose Byrne decided to start the pink party early with this Calvin Klein Collection dress. It’s nice to see the minimalism of Calvin Klein Collection on someone else besides Gwyneth Paltrow (no ‘fense, girl).

Of course I have to give a shout out to my favorite celeb: Tina Fey! She looks amazing in this vibrant blue Narciso Rodriguez gown.

You guys! This is Linda Cardellini from Freaks and Geeks!! I seriously could not believe it. She looks absolutely amazing in this wine-colored Donna Karan dress. Now here’s my small plug about DK: Well, we now have Donna Karan at the store including several pieces of this cabernet color, and all of her clothes feel amazing on. They fitted and well-structured yet still completely comfortable because of the stretch and fabulous materials. We have pants, leggings, coats, dresses, shirts, blouses, turtlenecks, all by Donna Karan.

Am I the only one who didn’t like this?? While I LOVE J. Mendel… didn’t they wear something like this in My Best Friend’s Wedding? Maybe it’s my weird random dislike for Zooey Deschanel (except for when she’s in Elf).

Here is Gia Coppola in Zac Posen. I love that she wore a short dress to the Emmy’s (as well as that she wore Zac Posen… who we have at the store by the way!), however, when you wear a short dress you should probably spice up your hair and accessories. Nevertheless, her body looks slammin’ in this dress.

Keep these lovely dresses and gowns in mind because, believe it or not, we’re coming upon the holidays. If you’re wondering what you should wear to all of the fall and winter events, we’ve got a lovely selection of couture dresses and evening wear in our new Women’s Luxury section on the second floor.

Golden Globes: A Recap

January 14, 2013

So last night’s Golden Globes were hilarious for several reasons. The first being that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted. They demonstrated that you don’t have to be over-the-top or outrageous to be funny. I just about died when the camera panned to Amy Poehler canoodling with George Clooney. The second reason is Jodie Foster’s very confusing speech and appreciation for Mel Gibson. The speech itself wasn’t funny, just how absolutely confusing it was (Did she just come out? Didn’t she come out a while ago? Wait- what? Did she just retire?). The third reason was Lena Dunham trying to to walk in (Louboutin) heels, leading me to scream “just take them off!” at the television. Glenn Close’s drunk impression was hysterical- love that woman. Lastly, some of the fashion from last night was a little “hilarious.”

These were our staff’s least favorites:

Dear Halle Berry (in Atelier Versace),

That dress is shifting things in all the wrong places.

Jessica Chastain (Calvin Klein Collection), we love your movies, congratulations on the Golden Globe win, however, this is not working for you.

J.Lo in Zuhair Murad: This is a lil’ much, girl. A lil’ too much.

Lea Michele in Elie Saab. Girl, you are TINY. You know you are short! Why is your dress a thousand miles long?

And onto our favorites of the evening!

Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen was Anne’s favorite

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka. This woman is always a knock out.

Michelle Dockery in Alexandre Vauthier: Andrea’s favorite. Just, wow.

Kendra’s favorite: Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera. We’re not sure if we’re digging her hair, but we love how she went out on a limb here and did something different from everyone else. There was a lot of monotony on the red carpet and we love that she stood out with something young and fun.

Sally Field in Alberta Ferretti

Blair’s favorite: Anne Hathaway in Chanel.

Allison Williams in J. Mendel: Emily’s pick. Those earrings are killer!

Ben’s favorite: Julianne Moore in Tom Ford. This woman was prepared for the cold!

Ultimately, the Golden Globes is the award show to try something fun and not take yourself THAT seriously. A lot of the younger rookies went all out with elaborate dresses with trains and the whole ten yards (we’re looking at you Taylor Swift) while the veterans (ie. Julianne Moore) showed up with beautiful dresses that were fun yet still formal enough for the Golden Globes. Save all that fancy stuff for the Oscars!
