A.K. Rikk’s X Ermenegildo Zegna

February 19, 2018

At A.K. Rikk’s, we are passionate about attention to detail, which is why we choose to partner with Ermenegildo Zegna. All of Zegna’s clothes can be made-to-measure, which means they can be built around YOU. A custom wardrobe is “the ultimate expression of your style” and is no longer just reserved for just suiting- your wardrobe can be custom whether its casual, formal, or business.

“Each element of a man’s personal style can be expressed through made to measure. From the button hole to the collar: the look is built around your wishes, your body and your way of dressing. This experience starts with a meeting: between you and your tailor. This is the beginning of a garment built around you.

The made-to-measure journey starts long before your first fitting, though…

“From the farms of Australia to the Lanificio Zegna wool mill in Trivero, northern Italy, the birthplace of the brand. It’s here that each weave of wool is washed in water fresh from the alpine streams. It arrives as pristine fleeces, and leaves as beautifully woven rolls of fabric. Ermenegildo Zegna is a completely vertically integrated company, meaning we can oversee each stage of preparing the fabric: from sheep to shop. For the customer who wants something built around them, this is a dream.”

Want to be a part of this made-to-measure experience? Join us for A.K. Rikks X Ermenegildo Zegna on 2/23/18 and 2/24/18. Get fitted by experts from New York to choose from over 400 exclusive fabrics to find the best weight, style, and finishing for your needs. Men’s European Fashion Week Roundup

January 26, 2018

For those who follow fashion, you know that the Fall 2018 Menswear season debuts each January. So far this year, Menswear Fashion Week has visited London (January 6-8), Milan (January 12-15), and Paris (January 17-21). In fact, our buying team, Creative Director, and President attended a number of these shows. They were up close and personal with the brands and people you love, getting inspiration and direction for how A.K. Rikk’s can keep our clients looking classic, yet modern and on trend. So far, here is what we are seeing (with quotes from writers who were in attendance)…

Wartime dispatch rider’s coats (long, copious, and cozy) were recast in black shearling or an off-olive calf, while high-cut bikers in black leather were remixed via panels of leopard and black velvet, or speckled with a fine white paint-spatter effect… The main attraction here though was the outerwear, with the Trialmaster top of the bill. – Luke Leitch

Almost camouflaged in this habitat, the abitos (suits) worth inhabiting included check topcoats with rough-edged hems and malachite brooches and pins at the lapel, velvet coats with contrasting paisley collars, trousers in leather corduroy, marble patterned and riotously psychedelic bombers and suits, woolen coats with horse embroideries trailing yarn fringes, Bruce Chatwin felt hats, brocade-edged robe coats, carpet backpacks, and neck chains linked through antique teaspoons. – Luke Leitch

Brunello Cucinelli:

While in keeping with the well-established Cucinelli look, there were subtle tweaks on fit, which was slightly looser, and on proportions, with jackets and pants slightly longer: just-nuanced improvements, detected only by the trained eye and by the many diehard Cucinelli aficionados, but effective in giving the look a fresh update. As for the made-in-Italy fabrics, corduroy velvet was treated almost as cashmere, feathery light and supple, for comfortably stylish pantsuits paired with cloud-like alpaca sweaters. Shearling peacoats were likewise buttery soft. Styling was kept simple yet layered; colors were warm and tonal. Like everything else in the collection, they were tastefully blended and balanced with flair. – Tiziana Cardini

Ermenegildo Zegna:

“The show was partially inspired by the Oasi Zegna, the Alpine nature reserve around the family company’s home base… A major part of the collection were the sports coats and top coats in double-faced Oasi cashmere, a new fabric whose dyes were all chemical-free and derived from natural ingredients… These were clothes which, like the Oasi, were painstakingly stewarded to look as natural in their beauty as possible… Long felted cashmere coats and even a magnificent cashmere jumpsuit featured semi-articulated pockets with different-color inserts at the seam. There was a lovely matte cotton corduroy used in color-blocked suiting, while pattern was provided via monochrome or yellow-on-black check suits delivered in a brushed alpaca mix, treated both before and after construction to abstract and soften the contrasting colors with blur and texture…This was an elaborately constructed oasis of out-there luxury menswear, perfect for any well funded man in search of shelter from the norm.” – Luke Leitch

How amazing were these Fall 2018 Menswear collections from some of our favorite brands? We’ll be keeping a keen eye on what’s coming up during Menswear Fashion Week in New York (February 5-8). Resort Wear Is Here: Part 2- Men’s

January 24, 2018

In case you missed it, last week we talked about women’s resort wear on the blog… don’t worry, guys! We didn’t forget about you. We know you, too, are ready to travel to warmer climates more than ever! A.K. Rikk’s has hundreds of new resort wear arrivals to help you feel and look your best as you escape the snow and gloomy weather. Jordan (Personal Shopper) has picked some potential resort wear looks that we know you will love (modeled on Visual Intern, Parker). Pay close attention to the details in material, texture, and coastal colors- a palate that is essential to the true resort wear man, no matter the location.

The first look pairs a Culturata cotton/silk flower print shirt with an ISAIA navy woven cardigan/blazer. The shirt is so lightweight, almost like a handkerchief- perfect for layering in a variety of climates. It is also quintessential for resort wear- a playful print, full of personality, but still a classic look. A.K. Rikk’s carries this shirt in a variety of patterns that go well with the Rag & Bone stone chino. Throw in the WANT Les Essentials De La Vie bag, and you are more than ready for some time away.

Ready for a lunch date on the coast? Consider this cool mix involving the linen Eleventy sport coat. Layering this over a white t-shirt keeps the vibe casual and fresh (as opposed to a traditional button up). Add an AG lux khaki chino and Common Projects pair of white tennis shoes to complete this stylish take on a classic look. Feeling even more nonchalant, but still want to look good? Consider pairing a navy woven Zegna polo with the Massimo Alba orange cashmere crewneck. This pop of color is fun and statement without trying hard. A pair of SNM jeans (or the khaki chino) would easily complete the look with little fuss.

Finally, to complete your vacation packing list, grab an ATM lightweight henley. This mixes well with almost every pant, short, or swim trunk in your luggage. To amplify the style, add a J.W. Brine cobalt pant with drawstring. The pant pattern and cut adds luxury, while the drawstring and material keeps it feeling effortless. For extra coverage, add a Saturdays NYC wool/alpaca blend khaki crewneck sweater over your shoulders or around your waist. The Zegna oxford shoe finishes this resort wear look with a pop of blue on a traditional silhouette.

From head to toe, your style can be not only weather and trip-appropriate, but unique, fashionable, and luxurious at the same time. Not seeing what you need or love? We have hundreds of more options in store! Contact your personal shopper to set up an appointment. He or she will start pulling looks that are customized to you and your trip.

What to Wear for Labor Day Weekend

August 30, 2017

Here at A.K. Rikk’s we love any reason to find the perfect outfit for the weekend. Labor Day is almost here and is a reminder a break from work is important and so is being ready for “layering” season. To find out what to wear for the holiday weekend and into the fall season we sat down with two of our Personal Shoppers, Hannah Wilson and Alexander Mars, to ask about their Labor Day weekend plans, what they’ll be wearing, and how they will transition items from day-to-night as we leave summer and enter into fall.

The Zegna difference

March 14, 2013

Whenever we have a trunk show weekend, we always welcome the curious, and questioning client who is wondering what all the mailers, emails and facebook posts are all about. We always get one major question during our Zegna trunk show, and that is: “What’s so special about the wool, what makes it different?” Well here is your answer sir: This April is the 50th annual celebration of the Golden Fleece Award, which is a milestone that Ermenegildo Zegna offers all wool growers around the world, which they in turn use to find the best wool. To celebrate this year Zegna is getting ready for 3 days of festivities from April 21-23 which will include press dinners, farm visits and a multimedia production at the Royal Hall of industries in Sydney. Wool growers from Mongolia, Italy, the UK, and Australia will attend to compete for the prize, which usually is awarded to the Australian growers who have perfected superfine merino into strands that are 18.5 microns thin or finer.

Our Ermenegildo Zegna trunk show will run from today until Friday.
