Thom Browne’s Manhattan Apartment

August 5, 2013

The weekend seems to always lead to my favorite antique spots….super secret locations that help inspire the prolonged expansion of Casa Tobar. However sometimes one can be stumped perusing the shelves, so back to the drawing board we go! Time for research! Stumbled over this gem in this months Architectural Digest, not only do we love the designer here at A/K, but whoever he has working with him on his place is amazing. It exemplifies not only his personal style of clean lines and very stiff architecture, but also it embodies his serious personality (industry insiders say…) Bravo!

Men’s Market

July 14, 2013

The temperature on the dash says 89 and its not even noon. The scalding stuffiness is seeping up through the vents covering the New York City metro system. Not even the slightest Atlantic breeze can penetrate the labyrinth of skyscrapers to offer a cooling break from the July sun.

Yup, it’s market week! The men’s team is heading for Metropolis starting this Friday! Just to get you a little inspired here are some pics from Pitti Milan of some of our vendors!

rag & bone: pop-up & party

November 6, 2012

There are only seven cities in the world that have rag & bone stores and for one week, Grand Rapids will be the eighth! Beginning November 14th, A.K. Rikk’s will be having a limited-time rag & bone pop-up store in our back event space! With at least twice as much inventory as we normally carry for the label, there will be a variety of new items including new shoes and accessories for men and women. What makes the pop-up even better is that each time you spend $500 on rag & bone from November 14th to the 16th, your name will be entered to win a trip for two to New York City where you will have the opportunity to meet the designers David & Marcus! To announce the grand prize, we are throwing a party on evening of Friday the 16th. The party will be held in our own event space and temporary rag & bone store. from 7 – 10 pm, this casual party will include drinks, light appetizers along with music and… beer pong! Yep, beer pong. Aside from the grand prize, additional winners will receive special prizes brought in from New York by rag & bone’s very own Jaclyn, Chris, and Ariel so you will want to make sure you’re there the entire time! See you you all at the pop-up store. Cross your fingers, knock on wood, and avoid ladders and black cats for those of you who be entered to win the trip to NYC!! Then… see you all at the party! Practice your pong!

Ready, Set, Tweed!

October 10, 2011

Ralph Lauren is finally bringing a London staple to New York. For the past few years a group of astute gentleman and gentlewomen have had the tradition of celebrating the tweed in their heritage by circling London by bicycle, dressed in their Sunday best, called the Tweed Run. The tradition is now being brought to the streets of New York this coming Saturday the 15th. Participants will start in the Village and ride all day to Brooklyn, stopping only to rest at a soiree and have tea. There will be prizes for best bicycle and best dressed appropriately.

New York buying trip: Isaia

July 25, 2011

Such a pleasure to see Victor and talk about the upcoming S/S 2012 season from one of the staff’s favorites: Isaia. As always the brand really showed up to the table with a palette as colorful as a gelato vendors choices. Can’t believe I have to wait a whole year till my white mohair dinner jacket comes in! Ugh!

Solving your Sartorial Conundrums for 30 Years!

April 11, 2011

It has finally arrived in print, and I just got mine in the mail today! Glenn O’Brien’s How to Be a Man: A Guide to Style and Behavior for the Modern Man (Rizzoli Publications). You might know Glenn from his monthly contribution to GQ magazine as their registered Style Guy. As a founding member of Warhol’s Factory and a critic for Andy’s Interview magazine, to his involvement with Basquiat in the 80’s New York art scene, O’Brien is always on top of the fashion social order and has been a go to for years when my conundrum filled life needs style solutions.
